Central Library in Jadavpur University

I have become  a life time member of Jadavpur University Central Library only at a cost of Rs 1000 . It is really nice . Advantage of becoming a life member of JU CL  is that at a time you can borrow three books and you can keep them for a month and again for another month after reissuing . You can access Reading room , Digital library and reference room at any time with the card in office hours . My main focus is to be strong in Mathematics . I have borrowed book of probability theory , Discrete mathematics , Graph theory , Queueing Theory , statistics etc . There is a huge collection of maths book in central library . Some are very good . Advantage of using CL is that you can not only borrow books of your related topics but you can also take a look of books of other subjects also . Yesterday I saw books of Organizational Behavior , Entrepreneurship ,  Wire less net work , Mechanics of  Mechanical Engineering , compiler design ,  six sigma of statistics etc at the rake of Pierson Education and other rakes. This is something new addition . There is arrangement of chilled drinking water also . Really it is very pleasuring to be there . But the only thing I should mention that the reading room and the reference rooms are non AC .Thats the problem thats why I cant spend much time there reading books in day time . After six o' clock its ok to be there . The temperature is low then . But the digital library is also very nice . You can spend there for hours reading tutorials or other on line educational magazines or surfing tutorial web sites . I spent hours for GRE on line exam practice. Playing with GRE words is an old practice of mine . I like to use bombastic words in my text when it is necessary cause it looks better and gives a real sense of knowledge of literature . Apart from that you can also take on line tutorial courses offered by Stanford University or Princeton University on various subjects .   These course are really useful for preliminary ideas about a subject .

IEEE seminar on Computational Intelligence

IEEE seminar on Computational Intelligence

REcently  at St Thoumas' College Of Engineering and Technology , IEEE Computational Intelligence society organized a two day seminar on Computational Intelligence in Information System , Imaging and security on 3 rd and 4th August 2012 . The first lecture was of Dr Tinku Achariya who discovered the web cam . Prof Sanghamitra Bandyopadhyay   from ISI Kolkata Machine Intelligence Unit delivered a lecture on K mean's clustering . Prof Ujjal Mallik delivered a lecture on Genetic ALgorithm . I liked best the lecture delivered by Prof Amit Konar . He spoke about Prosthetic limb or artificial limb . His topic was human brain computer interaction . How human thinking can operate a robot . Basically giving a robot the same characteristics that of a human brain provided some biological interaction can not be operated in robot , just like hormone reaction . But easily robot can dance at the comment of human or at the thought process of human . Actually IEEE Spectrum gives   us detail description of how human brain can be interpreted by robot using some sensor nodes . This is the greater advantage for physically challenged people . I am totally enthralled by the subject matter . It is fantastic . If you are interested in this human brain computer interaction then read some articles on online magazine of IEEE Spectrum . It will help you understanding the subject matter . Apart from that Prof Pabitra Mitra delivered a lecture on information retrieval . Though the subject was not unknown to me .

Me in NLP Lab

After a long time

After a long time I am writing this blog . Actually these days I am busy with my research works . Currently I am doing research on Machine Translation and I have started my work on Speech Processing . Though speech processing is not a easy task . At first you have to read some books on Digital Signal Processing and signal processing books . Actually speech processing is a robust task . Its a part of Natural Language Processing . It needs some linguistics knowledge and also some engineering woks . Actually our goal will be speech to speech processing . Source speech to source text conversion , source text to Target text conversion and Target text to Target speech conversion . These are the basic building blocks of Speech to Speech TRanslation . My another research interest in MAchine learning . Specially domain adaptation and other ML theorems like HHM ( Hidden Markov Model ) , MEMM ( Maximum Entropy Markov Model ) CRF ( Conditional Random Field ) . These are basically machine learning rules . These are all related to Probabilistic models . Coming back to speech to speech translation interest , verbmobil is a project basically dealing with some foreign languages speech to speech translation system in built in Mobile Technology . Though it was started at early 2000 , but I don't have a clear understandings of their system . Actually I have started reading a text book on verbmobil system . Currently I am reading a book named Theory and Application of Digital Speech Processing . And also I have bought a book named Springer Hand Book of Speech Processing . These books are costly . My Natural Language Processing Lab has supported me the financial help to bought these and many others books for lab . I am thankful to my LAB.

Prof Sudeshna Sarkar Came to Jadavpur University

Prof Sudeshna Sarkar came to Jadavpur Univeristy  last Saturday . We had a discussion with her on the Project ILMT . Sanjay and Barik also came to JU  with her . We had a two to three hours discussions on some problems related with Machine Translations from Hindi to Bengali or  vice versa . I gave some suggestions to them . They also gave some suggestions to me . Prof Sudehna Sarkar suggested me to do a PhD in India or abroad . She is very nice and intelligent . We had some discussions on Spelling Correction in Bengali Language . She gave some ideas and algorithms like soundex algorithm , Levenshtein Algorithm , Phonetically matching algorithm . She also discussed about transfer grammar , echo word , onomatopoeic expressions , multi words importance in Machine Translations .

ICON 2011

Recently I attended ICON 2011 conference .Before that I attended Multi Word Expression workshop in Chennai at AUKBC Research Center in Anna University . Prof Pushpak Battacharya from IIT - Mumbai , Prof Dipti Misra Sharma from IIIT - Hyd , Prof Rajiv Sanghal from IIIT - Hyd , Prof Shobha L from AUKBC and several others were present in the workshop . I learned several linguistic features for MWE in Indian Languages . MWE workshop was held for two days . After that there was pre-conference tutorial . The first day tutorial was Prof Robert Dale 's Grammar Checking Tutorial . It was very nice tutorial . After that there was Sreenivas Bangalore 's Mobile Computing Tutorial . He was from At&T Research Center in USA . He showed us how NLP is used in Mobile Net Work . His tutorial was very nice . In the main conference I met Prof Sudeshna Sarkar from IIT Kgp and PhD researcher Prashanth Manen from IIIT-Hyd . I also met Dr. Dipti Misra Sharma in the main conference . The ICON 2011 main conference was held for two days . All the papers were very nice . I met with Prof Neladri Shekhar Das . He was from ISI - Kolkata . I met Sanjay Chaterjee . He is a PhD researcher from IIT - kgp .
I am very happy that I have attended the conference .
