God does not exist ...

This is what I have realized after my foreign trip . Have you ever realized that where these Gods and Goddess live or how they survive ? Does science has a answer for this ? No ..  Not at all . How can Ravana have ten heads  Or Goddess Durga have ten hands ? Is it possible that any one can live a life with ten heads ? This is a mythological figure and there is no reality associated with it . When we were  a child we used to like to listen these mythological stories  . But these are really stories , pure stories . In which universe they live ? In which planet ? Does anyone has a answer ? Is there anybody who has talked or seen God ? Yes , in his dreams , not with his real eyes . As a scientist I cant understand that why people rely too much on these God and Goddess but not on efforts or " Work Done" or " KARMA   " . If your Karma is good and OK then you don't have to rely on God . Believe  on your  Karma not on your fate . God does exist in the heart of human being not in temples . Here God means some good quality of human being. This is what Rabindranath Tagore says . He also says .... " Man makes God and due to his sympathy  God's superiority exists " ( Manushi Debota gore tahari kripar pore kore deb mahima nirvar ).

Statistical Machine Translation by Philipp Koehn

Statistical Machine Translation is a very good book . Really it is very helpful when you are learning NLP or MT ( Natural Language Processing or Machine Translation ) . The book has three parts . The first part gives you detailed tutorial about NLP and Probability theory . The second part is the main part of the book and the third part is advanced part . Statistical Machine Translation is a very interesting topic now a days . There are several MT related projects which are  going on now a days . Anuvadaksh is a MT project on which currently I am working . So this book is very helpful to me .

Each and every chapter of this book is really help full . I feel some difficulty understanding some topics in the third part which is advanced topics . Though slowly slowly I will cover the whole book.

Flame & Grill

Yesterday we spent a night at Flame & Grill in South City .  Partha Pakray completed his PhD viva yesterday and for that occasion he offered a dinner at Flame & Grill . This is my first time that I had a dinner at Flame & Grill . That was awesome . There was live performance of singers at Flame & Grill . The starter was very nice . And then comes the main course . Also drinks ( I dont prefer alcoholic drinks ) . We all the members of the NLP lab joined the dinner . My two students Parijat and Ashis also joined us in the dinner . Prawn , Chicken , Mutton , Biriyani , Fried Rice , Meat Curry , Fish , Ice Cream , Sweets , Fruits ,  Salads everything was there . As there was  many items of foods so cost was really high . Altogether we twelve people from NLP lab joined the dinner .We enjoyed a lot at Flame and Grill . We wish all the best for Partha Pakray's bright future .

Today is Saturday

Though today is Saturday , but I am in the office . I love to come to office whenever office is open ( thats mean whenever Jadavpur University is open , it may be a holiday officially ) . I generally come to office around  10 AM in the morning and then I leave my lab around 9 PM in the night . I spend a lot of time in office . Doing your research for doctoral degree and again doing work of the project from which I get my salary are not so easy . I have to play double role for double amount of work in the lab . Apart from that publishing new innovative research papers , attending conferences across the country , attending seminars of world famous scientists , these are extra amount of activities which I have to do  in present . But it is a lovely job , I mean I am 100% satisfied with my job , my research and my activities . Again I am taking care of few students in private coaching in lab and also in the house in my holidays . These give me some financial benefits and some amount of recapitulating my previous course materials . Private coaching is a really nice concepts for new researchers . My project sponsors monetary help for buying valuable books and also for attending international conferences . Thanks to ANUVADAKSH ( English To Indian Language Machine Translation Phase I & II ) project . This project is my bread and butter . For this project I have come to know some world famous Profs in India and in abroad . Recently I have submitted my synopsis for doctoral degree course in next four or five years to the PhD committee in Jadavpur University . I have also appeared for PhD entrance test in Jadavpur University . I have come to know that I have three supervisors in the PhD course . The First Supervisor is Prof ( Head OF Department , Computer Science & Engineering , Dean Of Faculty Of Engineering ) Sivaji Bandyopadhyay , Second Supervisor is Dr Srinivas Bangalore , World famous Speech Scientist from AT&T Labs Research , NJ , USA . The Third Supervisor is Dr Sudip Kumar Naskar ( Assistant Prof of Jadavpur University , Department of Computer Science & Engineering ) . My PhD topic is Speech To Speech Translation . Hope I will successfully finish my PhD in next four or five years .

Brain & Its functions ...

BRain - the most important part of human body . It is the central operating system of the body . Every time we think , we blink our eye , even we move our hand , there is some chemical reaction is happening in the brain and some electric current flow occurs , thats why we are alive , or the brain is alive .  When this electric flow stops , then brain death occurs .  There is a new trend in Brain science , that is Brain atlas or Brain mapping .  Different part of the brain is responsible for different functions of the body . In Brain Atlas the scientists and Doctors are trying to map human or animal brain for a particular disease or particular functions . USA has already declared a large amount of money to be spent in Brain Mapping .  It is really very interesting -- the BRain Atlas . If we successfully develop brain atlas then we can detect the causes of mental disorders or some neuron related diseases . In the recent conference of BRain and Consciousness in ISI Kolkata scientists and doctors discussed a lot about this Brain Mapping .  They also discuss about mental disorders like Schizophrenia , Bipolar disorder and also about Hub gene etc . There were present Prof Dwijesh Dutta Majumder and also some other eminent scientists and doctors across India . Invited talks and other lectures were very important in its contents . Prof Amit Konar lecture was another important lecture in the conference . He talked about artificial limb or prosthetic limb and how to use them just like normal limb . He also discussed about fMRI and other methods of capturing human brain signals in computers . This is called Human Brain Computer interaction . It is a very interesting topic . This two day conference was really helpful for me and for my friends understanding brain and its functions .

Durga Puja is coming !!

Durga puja is coming . Puja is knocking the door . Its a great feeling to celebrate Bengali's greatest festival with joy and pleasure . Shopping is already done . New clothes give a special dimension in the joy of the festival . Not only new  clothes but  new shoes , new friends , new "love" everything is there in air of puja . A sense of love is prevailing in the air . Love is in the air . A very romantic feeling that can not be expressed in words . Dura puja is our greatest festival , but it is celebrated all over the world , not only in various parts of India , but different parts of the world . Thats why it is becoming international . I have a plan for celebrating Durga Puja . All day ( the five days of Durga Puja  Sasthi + Saptami + Asthami + Nabami + Bijaya Dashami  ) Pandle hopping with friends , eating at restaurants , enjoying Dhak's musical sound , dancing with burning   Dhunuchi and then late night Addas . After that a tour to Nepal ( Kathmandu , Pashupati Nath's Temple )  for ten days .  This is the schedule of my puja vacation . In the midst of this joy , I have to attend a seminar at St Thomas College at 8 - 9 oct 2013 . I have got the invitation from my college to attend the seminar . I will attend that definitely . There are several puja cassettes already available in the market , and also some puja Barshikis . Puja is coming , love is in the air . I have already bagged some gifts from my sisters and my brother - in - laws . These are awesome gifts . These are puja gifts .
